  • Paarl Mountain nature reserve:- A haven to all nature lovers, with hiking trails, mountain bike trails, and the opportunity to walk/climb/scramble up the famous granite rock that gives Paarl its name. At least 15 species of Protea are found on these mountains and a selection is grown in a well laid out garden which you can walk through. In addition to there a vast variety of fynbos wild olives and an assortment of indigenous trees and shrubs can be viewed in their natural environment
  • Le Bonheur crocodile farm with its own restaurant as well as guided tours allow the visitor to gain a fresh understanding of these ancient reptiles.
  • The Afrikaans Language monument serves as a reminder of the origin of the Afrikaans language, with daily informative tours.
  • Drakenstein Correctional Services:- Formally known as Victor Verster Prison, nestled between Franschhoek and Paarl, this was home to Nelson Mandela for the last 14 months of his 27 years of imprisonment. This is the site where he made the historic “Long Walk to Freedom” on 11 February 1999.

    Daily tours are conducted and it is possible to visit the house where this International icon wstayed during the last days of his internment. A grand sculpture of this great man stands at the prison gates
  • Wine routes:- Some of South Africa’s finest wines are found along the various wine routes in the area. These offer a wide selection of fine wines from a multitude of wineries, Wine estates and small garagiste wine producers. At different times of the year, the various wine routes offer special events which further enhance the occasion of a visit to the wine lands. The tranquil and central location of Paarl offers the perfect base from which to discover the rest of these Cape Winelands. Some of the more recognisable wine and brandy names of Paarl include, KWV, Nederburg, Fairview, Spice Route, Simonsvlei and Backsberg.
  • Two famous and world class golf courses are found in Paarl.

    Records show that golf was first played in Paarl in 1880. The Paarl Golf Club (which later became Boschenmeer) was established in 1908. Boschenmeer Golf Club offers a selection of 27 holes. Each 9 has its own special character and challenges and the “Extra 9 holes” ensures that even on competition days it is often possible to get in a social game.

    Pearl Valley Golf Course is a Jack Niclause signature course. Under his management this course was laid out to provide both challenges and rewards to professionals and amateurs alike. Since its opening this course has continually been rated in the top 10 of South African Golf courses and has hosted the SA Open on a number of occasions.
  • Sandwiched between these two great golf courses is the famous Polo Estate of Val de Vie. A number of stables and riding schools are located in close proximity and daily outrides are easily arranged.
